Sakenan Temple is a Hindu Temple located in the northwest of Serangan Village, Sub district of Denpasar and Badung regency. It is about 10 KM south part of Denpasar Town. We see a coastal view with beautiful sea, hill consecution and Nusa Dua Beach which are located in south side. The structure of Sakenan Temple is divided into 2 groups those are Sakenan Temple is a temple complex which is located in eastside and Dalem Sakenan Temple is a temple complex located in west side.
According to the papyrus of Dwijendra Tattwa, the name of Sakenan is coming from the word of Sakya means to earn direct unite the mind. This papyrus elaborates that Danghyang Nirartha got stuck and feeling natural beauty of calm sea with the nature of its coast. Therefore he lodge there and do the yoga to worship to the God as supremacy of the safety and prosperity. At the time of doing yoga, he directly earn unite his mind Sakya. Therefore he builds the altar called Sakenan Temple. At the moment Sakenan Temple which is built by the Danghyang Nirartha and recognized by the name of Dalem Sakenan Temple, a complex of Sakenan Temple in west shares.
The Sakenan Temple Festival executed every 6 month (210 days) that is on Saturday of Kliwon Wuku Kuningan (Balinese Calendar) and the same time with the celebration of big holiday for Balinese Hindu which is called Hari Raya Kuningan. The celebration of temple ceremony is conducted during 3 days and the top ceremony procession is called Ceremony of Mapag Sakenan which is executed on second day (Sunday of Umanis Langkir). The celebration of Temple Ceremony is accompanied by the Wali Dance (Secret Dance) like Barong Ket and Barong Landung Dance. The Hindu people come to this place for worship to the god and they are coming from various areas, especially from Badung regency. Sakenan Temple in its growth now is a place of interest in Bali which you need to visit during your vacation in this tropical island.
As usual, the religious ritual will attract portions of foreign visitors. The ritual will provide an opportunity without precedent for the foreign travellers to the witness how the local Hindu followers make their ritual. The local Hindu followers will walk, to say the prayers in the procession and will cross the ocean in boat loaded before reaching the temple of Sakenan. To the Hindu followers of Balinese, the day of Kuningan is a time for the commemoration because the ancestors return to the sky after dwelling in the Earth by ten days and when the opinion of Balinese is thankful to the Gods by its mercy to the human races.
Each village in Bali will celebrate Kuningan in magnificent style, with several parts of the island of Bali carrying out festivales colorful. The post of bamboo or the locally called "penjor", that has been elevated in the front of the door of the entrance of each compound of the house since a day before it is Galungan redecorated taking under the white clothes and replaced with the yellow clothes, symbolizing the prosperity. In spite of the persistent crisis, Bali continues being more the preferred destination of the tourism of the world due to its abundance of the culture and the natural beauty. The day of Kuningan offers one of the superior attractions of the tourism of Bali.
To reach the temple, you can go in boat or cars If you go in car or bici, you pass a bridge that binds to the island of Serangan and the south of Denpasar. It takes the impulsion you from around 15 minutes to reach the temple. Now, the east of Kuta can be reached through a way in approximately 15 minutes. Now day the road to reach the temple has been larger, you can go to sakenan by cars until the side of the temple. But around the way you will feel a very bad smell. But now days the goverment already fixed that thing, and begin to repair the area.
